History

Founded in 1998 and member of Maison Théâtre since 2007, Théâtre Tout à Trac is well known by Quebec audiences for such successful productions as L’Oiseau Vert, commedia dell’arte … and La Princesse Turandot, winner of numerous audience awards and awarded the Masque for Best Script Adaptation in 2006.

Alice in Wonderland, created in 2008, is the first young audience production of the company. This unique adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s classic and winner of the Acadie-RIDEAU Award in 2008, counts to this day more than 500 performances throughout Canada, the United States and Asia. The show is performed in French and English.

Theater can flourish anywhere. In 2009, Tout à Trac introduces its first street theater production, Les Vieilles (The Old Ladies), performed more than a hundred times in Quebec.

MÜNCHHAUSEN, les machineries de l’imaginaire (MUNCHAUSEN, the Machinery of the Imagination), is created at Théâtre Denise-Pelletier in Montréal in January 2011. The show has since toured in Quebec and has been presented 75 times to more than 44,000 spectators. The production is available for international touring.

PINOCCHIO, Tout à Trac’s second young audience show, co-produced with Places des Arts and the Tennessee Performing Arts Center, opened at Cinquième Salle of La Place des Arts in December 2012. This unique adaptation of Collodi’s famous tale has been acclaimed by the critics and audiences throughout North America and Asia, in French and English. The show already counts more than 350 performances and is the recipient of the Best Tour in Canada and the United States Award by the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec (CALQ), in 2016.

Tout à Trac general audience production Le Tour du Monde en 80 joursAround the World in 80 days—was presented by the renowned Théâtre du Nouveau Monde in Montreal in April 2015, and toured in 2017. This critically acclaimed grand spectacle is the recipient of 3 Gascon-Roux audience awards of Théâtre du Nouveau Monde, including Best Stage Direction. It was presented 46 times to more than 33,000 spectators.

Les aventures du Baron de Münchhausen, the young audience version of MÜNCHHAUSEN, les machineries de l’imaginaire, was created in fall 2017 and completed its first tour in Quebec. The show has been presented 13 times to more than 5000 spectators.

Construire le rêve, Laboratoire public de création du Rêveur dans son bain, was created in spring 2021 at Théâtre du Nouveau Monde. It was presented 7 times to more than 950 spectators. It was also webcasted by the TNM from May 21 to June 7 2021.

Alice de l’autre côté, a young audience show, was created March 7, 2022 at Spect’art Rimouski’s Salle Desjardins-Telus, in Rimouski, our show’s principal partner. It started touring in March 2022. The show won the Critics’ Award for Best show for young audience in 2023.

From May 2, 2023, the latest general audience production, Le Rêveur dans son bain—(The Dreamer in his Bath)—was presented 27 times for more than 15,500 spectators at Théâtre du Nouveau Monde. The show received 3 Gascon-Roux audience awards. It is the only Tout à Trac’s show that won’t be touring.

The company has created and toured eleven productions, presented more than 1500 shows to more than 530,000 spectators.
